Maasai milk in a cooperative they co-own and govern.

In late 2025, I spent a morning with pastoralist families and dairy cooperatives in the Morogoro region of Tanzania, documenting a quiet transformation in the way milk moves from cows to community.

Through the Farmers & Pastoralists Collaboration (FPC) project, documenting how Maasai milk producers now deliver to cooperatives and the SAT milk processing facility, where they are not just suppliers but co-owners with a voice in decisions and a share in the profits.

Walking with them at first light, from homesteads and cattle sheds to the dairy plant, I captured what this model truly brings: dignity, shared responsibility, and a more stable income during harsher dry seasons. Photography work for Biovision Switzerland.
